This bold, Vertigo-esque image is a nice tip of the hat to designer Saul Bass, invoking some of the best of Hitchcock's thrillers.
9. The Expendables
Sure, it looks like it belongs on the back of an Ed Hardy shirt, but it communicates everything you need to know -- and no old-school action movie fan could resist a lineup of stars like that.
8. I'm Still Here
The wiped-out type over Joaquin Phoenix's enigmatic (and slightly disturbing) portrait is a classy breath of fresh air.
From the pink on pink to the handwritten type, all of the elements on this design come together quite nicely.
6. Toy Story 3
The gang's all here! A vibrant, fun teaser for Pixar's third and final Toy Story adventure. Note even the Pixar ball in the top right corner.
5. For Colored Girls
This striking poster for Tyler Perry's latest drama is a gorgeous contrast of watercolor on white.
4. Carlos
Retro-styled designs can be hard to pull off, but this 1970s-era poster art for Olivier Assayas' Carlos The Jackal epic is pitch perfect.
3. The Social Network
The blue browser bar is tacky, unnecessary and inexplicably sideways, but the poster for David Fincher's "Facebook movie" arguably has the best tagline of the year.
2. From Paris With Love
The teaser poster for this forgettable action thriller is surprising elegant and restrained. Of course, the subsequent theatrical poster featured John Travolta firing a giant rocket launcher, so it all evens out.
1. Inception
This poster simply depicts one the most memorable, visually arresting sequences from Christopher Nolan's sci-fi heist thriller, and it works.
