In Windows 7, some applications will display the icons in notification area of taskbar to tell you that they are executing. You can customize which icon should display and not, but you must notice that whether the application you’re using or had been uninstalled, you can always meet those icons in the notification area when you customize them. Maybe it’s not a big deal and you can just let it go. But when the day that you feel so upset to meet those useless icons comes, you just need to review this article and resolve this trivial matter easily.
OK, let’s find an easy way to delete those useless application icons.
Step 1, click “start” and input “Regedit” to search box, and click “Enter”.
Step 2, Find this file - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify. In this step, I suggest you to backup this file in case the mistaken delete you made and result the system’s collapse.
Step 3, find those 2 keys: “IconStreams” and “PastIconsStream” and delete. Press F5 to refresh the Regedit and close it.
Step 4, Restart your computer and run Task Manager, end the progress of “explorer.exe”. Just wait a moment, and then click “file” on Task Manager and “new tasks”, input “explorer” and OK.
Now the Task bar will appear and those useless icons in the notification area will not forever.

Hello
I tried your fix but didn't work, not only are the same useless icons from programs that were uninstalled there, also the deleted registry keys returned. I made sure I did F5 after deleting them.
Any clue?
